At KindBuys, we base products' sustainability and ethical achievements on third-party certifications.
Sometimes we get feedback that requiring certifications is problematic because the certification entities are flawed. We understand this position, but we also feel that, despite the flaws, third-party validation is the best way to ensure that a company is upholding its claims.
With the amount of greenwashing that occurs today, it's too hard to expect consumers to try and weed through and investigate all of the claims that companies make. Companies will often put labels on their products that appear to be certifications (but are not) like this:
The main goal of KindBuys is to help consumers make informed decisions about their purchases. We don't want to shame any company, or discredit their achievements, but rather, we want to acknowledge the sustainable and ethical standards they are upholding as enforced by third-party entities.
As always, if you have questions, ideas, or feedback, we'd love to hear!
