ROHO Agave uses sisal agave hearts to craft agave spirits in Kenya, reduce waste, and create local livelihood opportunities. Sisal plants are cultivated in coastal Kilifi to produce durable fibers from their leaves, and after the plants reach maturity, the hearts are normally discarded or burned. Drawing inspiration from traditional Mexican techniques, ROHO Agave slow cooks the sisal agave hearts with local neem wood in pits lined with volcanic stones collected from Mount Kilimanjaro, extracts and wild ferments the juice, double distills the ferment, and blends the distilled alcohol to produce a balanced and rounded flavour profile. They bottle their agave spirits in recycled glass with paper labels made from the agave processing waste. ROHO Agave uses the remaining waste to produce quality compost fertilizer for the local community.
