Oorja finances, installs, operates, and maintains decentralized solar energy systems for community use with no upfront technology acquisition cost to end users. Rather than selling the solar systems and equipment, they sell reliable and affordable farming services powered by solar energy. Farmers pay based on the amount of irrigation water pumped, harvest milled, or produce stored. This model creates rural employment opportunities, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and helps farmers diversify production, reduce waste, and increase yields and income. Oorja provides free technical advisory services and training to reduce dependence on synthetic inputs and support the transition to agroecological practices.
